This page aims to draw attention to Health Equity and DEI issues within the field of Cardiology. DEIB initiatives includes diversifying the workforce, recognizing connections, creating supportive environments where individuals from diverse backgrounds may experience microaggressions, unconscious bias, and discrimination, which can negatively impact long-term cardiovascular health.

Cardiologists you should know

Diverse providers, particularly cardiologists represent a very small percentage of the overall cardiology workforce.  The Association of Black Cardiologists promotes the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease, including stroke, in Blacks and other minorities and to achieve health equity for all through the elimination of disparities.  A 2024 news article from NIH highlighted heart health disparities in African American communities and the pivotal work from the Association of Black Cardiologists
