Library Services and Patient Education deliver major cost savings

1.1-minute read time

Over the past year, Library Services and our new sister department, Patient Education, have been laser-focused on identifying cost savings while still delivering high-quality resources and support to our staff and patients.

Our efforts have paid off in ways that directly benefit our organization and the communities we serve. Through diligent vendor negotiations, Library Services achieved approximately $150,000 in savings this year.

These negotiations didn’t just cut costs, they also brought in ClinicalKey, a new resource that nearly doubles our journal and e-book collection. ClinicalKey provides hundreds of new:

  • full-text journals
  • clinical decision-making tools
  • patient education resources
  • e-books
  • continuing education materials (read more later in this newsletter).

Patient Education also identified huge savings. We saved $60,000 through vendor consolidation and expect to save the organization another $350,000+ annually through print redesign. We will continue to consolidate materials and move things digitally whenever possible.

Both departments have prioritized improving access to resources and tools. Staff now have direct access to a broader range of journals, decision-making aids, and patient education materials. Our teams have also focused on:

  • making materials easier to find and use within clinical workflows
  • reducing reliance on custom content
  • regularly updating resources to ensure accuracy and relevance.

We've doubled our journal and e-book collections plus there's new options for CME/MOC credits
